There were a few things that needed to be done before I head to Seoul, South Korea to study abroad. Here we go!
Housing
I've decided to stay at Crimson House which is only five minutes away from Korea University Anam Campus. The reason for staying at a off-campus dorm was because I knew I wanted my own room and the chances of obtaining a single room on-campus are 50/50.
Visa
Getting a visa for Korea is really easy, as long as you have all the right documents. The MIX office was helpful in providing us the link for the list of documents needed to obtain a student D-2 visa. The documents you need are current school transcript (NOT OPEN), bank statement, acceptance letter from KU, visa application + $45 (CASH), passport, and a passport photo. Be sure not show any teeth and show your ears in the photo! If you plan on traveling in and out of Korea, be sure to ask for a multi visa.
Insurance
My private insurance did not cover what I needed to study internationally therefore I had to purchase insurance that covered me in Korea. The MIX website was really helpful and gave us many website and choices to choose from. I purchased Patriot Insurance for about $130.
Courses
As a Freeman Scholar, we were required to take at least three business classes. I decided to take courses that I needed to graduate. The classes I will be taking are Internet Marketing, Marketing Management, and Leadership: Theory and Practice. I've also decided on taking a online writing intensive class here at UH Manoa. In total, I will be taking 4 classes.
